Inside Plant/Outside Plant Engineer (Country Lead) - Bagram, Afghanistan

Duties:

•          Managing ten $12 million site totaling a $125 million country wide project

•          Perform and document site surveys to support fiber optic, copper, and coaxial infrastructure requirements

•          Create PSAs to include specification for allied support, other minor construction, or facility upgrades and tools and test equipment requirements

•          Prepare working engineering project design packages for integration teams with integration instructions, sketches, and LOMs

•          Complete technical solution for the telecommunications and IT upgrades/integrations

•          Analyze technical requirements to support projected mission, technology, infrastructure changes, and recommend capabilities for the new and existing facilities

•          Lead cable installation team consisting of soldiers and civilians on building communications infrastructure, inside, and outside plant cable installation operations.

•          Supervised soldiers and served as technical lead on copper/fiber optic cable installations for both outside plant and inside plant.

•          Assisted in drafting policies and procedures for approval to ensure consistent standards for inside and outside plant installations.

•          Responsible for reviewing new technologies for application to support the mission during a war time environment.

•          Made recommendations for replacement/upgrade of support equipment, copper/fiber optic cable transmission technologies to increase reliability and optimize systems performance.

•          Reviewed and disseminated safety information and technical orders for existing equipment used by soldiers ensuring safety protection is worn.

•          Pull telecommunications cabling through a wide variety of building architectures (both permanent and temporary, including tactical) through buried conduit (outside plant) routed between buildings, ceilings, raised floors and cable troths, splice copper and fiber optic cabling.

•          Prepare telecommunications rooms/closets in buildings to function as central and secondary distribution nodes for telecommunications cabling networks

•          Establish and maintain cable records, use database software such as Remedy to track and control job orders, interpret drawings to troubleshoot, install and make recommendations for new facilities and upgrades

•          Test and certify Category 5 UTP cabling, fiber optic and main feeder cable with ohm meters, toners and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)

Inside Plant/Outside Plant Manager, 06/2005 to 09/2006 - 335^th Signal Command, 160th Signal Brigade, ASG-Kuwait

Duties:

•          Install, terminate and test telecommunications cabling through a wide variety of building architectures (both permanent and temporary, including tactical) through buried conduit (outside plant) routed between buildings, ceilings, raised floors and cable troths.

•          Terminate Category 5 UTP, coaxial, and fiber optic cables at designated work stations and in telecommunication closets and distribution frames.

•          Prepare telecommunications rooms/closets in buildings to function as central and secondary distribution nodes for telecommunications cabling networks.

•          Install hardware/systems such as cable trays, ladder racks, J-Hooks, and/or D-rings to support telecommunications cable pulls.

•          Test and certify Category 5 UTP cabling, fiber optic and main feeder cable with ohm meters, toners and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR).

•          Splice copper and fiber optic cabling. RJ45’s / RJ11’s, set up switch racks, run jumper cables.

•          Troubleshoot and correct both copper and fiber optic cable problems for lack of continuity, noise, signal loss and degradation, improper termination, excessive loss and intermittent problems.

•         Establish and maintain cable records, use database software such as Remedy to track and control job orders, interpret drawings to troubleshoot, install and recommendations for new facilities and upgrades.

Duties:

•          Managed all operations at the team level to maintain the integrity of the cable team and assure consistency of voice, video and data to our customers.
